Legal Florida Arrowhead Jackpot
If you feel like there have been more than the usual number of artifacts on this channel lately, you're right. I can't get enough of a good thing. I have always thought that Native American artifacts were fascinating and I love hunting for arrowheads. Every time I find a point I want to share it with y'all because the hobbies of fossils and artifacts are so closely related, I'm sure that at least some of y'all share my enthusiasm for both. For years I always wanted to collect arrowheads in Florida but I like to stay on the right side of the law so I never had the chance until just a few months ago when I found out about The Big Dig Florida, a company that leads legal Florida arrowhead hun...

megalodon as a species frequented this region to feed on the whales here. the sharks lost teeth which fell to the ocean floor, got covered by sediment and fossilized. over time the ocean level fluctuated and eroded away all those deposits, redepositing them all in the same strata. that happened a bunch of times over millions of years. during the ice age the ocean level fell again and rivers flowed through this area, eroding out all those deposits and piled them together just like modern rivers do. finally, excavation for a borrow pit exposed the deposits created by one of those ice age river flows and that's why there is so much here. this video just concentrated on the plethora of megalodon teeth, but there were all kinds of ice age animals in those deposits too. there were elephants, horses, tapirs, giant sloths, and more which you can see in my Sloth Party playlist. it was truly a remarkable site. thanks for watching and for the sub!

it could be pretty on the inside if it was unbroken, ie no river water and sand had entered the interior chamber. once the interior is exposed, algae gets in , dirt fills all the cracks, and it becomes discolored by the acidic water. its very much like a geode. i've never tried on beaches but its possible if you find teeth regularly and there is tiny gravel in the sand. a perfect example would be caspersen beach which is just south of Venice. That beach has loads of small teeth and you can see tiny pieces of phosphate all over the place. I believe that beach could produce micro fossils.

I have a site I haven't posted yet where I have found hundreds of points also, and the land has never been farmed, and probably 3/4 of the points are broken also. The material is quite brittle there so I'm sure that has something to do with it. They used them so they could eat and breaks happened often. thanks for reaching out. Good luck on your hunts!

@@blackriverfossils I agree with you and I am very thankful & respectful of undeveloped land in general! In these times, however, watching residential growth accelerate across 100+ year old growth forests with track homes is silent torture. Proof that change will come one day regardless. Across the river from our place is a neighbor with some cattle. He is old and unwell unfortunately but he recently told me a story about his father showing him native gravesites along the river in the late 50’s. He can’t remember where but he remembers moss covered rocks having rough engraving of unrecognizable language across them! I’m super excited about this and think this confirms what I’ve believed about the property all along. It also gives evidence that finding any artifacts today is truly a gift against increasing odds. I guess we are both wowed by the potential story behind each artifact or fossil. Thank you for sharing your thoughts & experience. Makes me feel better about the broken points. I still comparatively have so much to learn and understand about these natives. The ancient towns and villages of these people are practically unknown and supported only by what we find! Good hunting.

@@colt110987 its happening in the lowcountry too. beautiful forests full of majestic live oak trees, easily hundreds of years old, are being bulldozed to make way for condos, apartments, and housing developments for droves of new people to move into. our antebellum past is being buried under concrete, along with the remnants of the Native Americans who lived here for thousands of years before. The fossils are deeper still, and they are lost as soon as the pavement and buildings go in too. progress is painful. i feel for the animals who have nowhere to go. By the end of my life there won't be a non-landscaped tree left around here. Your cattle farming neighbor's story is remarkable! Have you ever seen those rocks with carvings? If I ever came across something like that I would be taking pictures! Native americans always were close to water, so if you're close to a river your farm is likely richer than you already know! youtube is a great place to learn about stuff like this, there are all kinds of knowledgeable people, not to mention jaw dropping finds all over the place! • @blackriverfossils

its a felony to dig on public land in FL too, that's why the private property angle is so necessary. You can't even pick them up legally in a river there. I like the way South Carolina does it - anything goes on private property just like in FL, but in rivers its legal to collect them as long as you have hobby diver license from the state and you report the find. Indiana sounds pretty harsh as far as artifacts go - If you dug for artifacts on your own property there, is that still a felony?

Where is a good place to find them. I have a 4 year old that I have been promising to look for sharks teeth. I live in Cottageville and am not far from Charleston.

if you have a boat, a lot of the islands in charleston harbor have teeth on the banks. there are spots just a few minutes from remleys point landing. people find them on folly beach too. closer to you there are creeks in summerville you can find them. you can go to sawmill branch next to where it crosses dorchester rd next to the pawn shop & kfc. go at low tide and look in the gravel pockets on the bottom. lots of creeks have them you just have to explore and look for gravel. good luck to yall!

Love your finds. I’m not knowledgeable about shark teeth but why are they mostly dark in color? Thank you for the video, I enjoy watching and learning.

the color comes from the sediment. this spot has mostly dark teeth because of all the black phosphate in the formation. other spots have different colors from different minerals in the soil. thanks for watching!
